Mission of the department:

Preparation of highly qualified specialists and performance of scientific research in the areas of informatics engineering and information technologies, accumulation of competence and assistance to business in practical application of scientific knowledge.

Bachelor study programmes

Informatics Engineering. This study programme is the first study programme in Lithuania that was recognised internationally and accredited in EQANIE (European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education) network and awarded with a prestigious “Euro-Inf” quality label. The quality and popularity of programme are confirmed by the constantly growing number of students and the name of the best Informatics Engineering study programme in Lithuania earned for several successive years. The graduates from this programme acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also deep practical skills covering the most important fields of informatics engineering: design of software and hardware of computer systems, implementation, installation, support, administration of computer systems of companies, support, ensuring of safety.

Health Informatics. In the course of studies, the student acquires the knowledge of public health and informatics, learns to design, create and support the software and hardware aimed at the solution of healthcare objectives.

Master study programme

Information and Information Technology Security. The programme is aimed at preparation of Masters who have the basics of cyber security theory, methods and technologies, knowledge of information security management and cyber space legal regulation, are able to work independently and with due qualification in the field of ensuring cyber security – to evaluate, design and implement safe systems of information technologies and security management, solve security problems related to social engineering, plan and implement the continuation of activity and restoration of cyber systems.

Under international project HOME/2013/ISEC/AG/INT/4000005176 „Lithuanian Cybercrime Centre of Excellence for Training, Research&Education (L3CE)“ (2014-7-8 – 2016-01-07) national Cybercrime Centre of Excellence for Training, Research and Education (L3CE) was established in 2013, which joined to international network of the Centres of Excellence for Cybercrime and Cybersecurity (2Centre). The project was financed by the European Commission. The head of the KTU research group – prof. dr. Algimantas Venčkauskas. More about the project and investigation of cybercrimes

Under national scientific project VP1-3.1-ŠMM-08-K-01-018 „Research and development of internet technologies and their infrastructure for smart  environments of  things and services“ (2012-08-14 – 2015-08-13 ), financed by  the European Social Fund Agency, Department of Computer Science developed methodology and technology for integration of smart environment of things. The head of the research group – prof. dr. Algimantas Venčkauskas.
