Informatics

Informatics (N009) are based on Computer science and the science of Calculating research. Mathematical models of an object or a system are used, appropriate simulating algorithms are created and important results for science and practice obtained. KTU+VDU N009 is a study direction that is chosen by doctoral students who analyse data bases and also work in the areas of signal and image analysis, simulated modelling, artificial intelligence, physical behaviour, overall creation and examination of dynamic models, cryptographic algorithms, formation of systems, high-level transformation of specifications, etc. Some of these areas may also belong to the field of Informatics Engineering (T007) – it depends on which of the realisation aspects, the mathematical system model or the engineering-architectural model, is the dominant one.

Informatics Engineering

Informatics Engineering is an area in computer science field focusing on searching for efficient solutions to practical calculation and information processing problems while applying scientific knowledge. This PhD programme prepares future science leaders in the field of informatics engineering. To get a PhD degree, every doctoral student must complete doctoral studies (30 credits), carry out original scientific research in the field of informatics engineering and develop new scientific knowledge, introducing the results of their research in national and international scientific conferences and science magazines; all PhD students must write and orally defend their doctoral dissertations. The programme provides an opportunity for the doctoral students to complete one module at an academic institution abroad or participate at a doctoral summer school that is also organised abroad. From day one, they are expected to actively carry out scientific research at KTU Santaka Valley, a state-of-the-art hub for research and knowledge intensive business. An obtained PhD degree confirms that the doctoral student has extensive academic education and is able to carry out original research in the field of informatics engineering.
