This virtual reality project recreates the old game “Wolf and Eggs.” In this game, players control a wolf with a basket to catch falling chicken eggs. In Eggs VR, the player is given a physical basket to collect the eggs.
A VR motion controller is mounted on the real basket, and the virtual basket model is created to replicate the real one. The VR motion controller allows the exact position of the real basket in space to be tracked, placing the virtual basket in the same spot. In this way, the basket the player is holding is also visible in virtual reality. This connection between the two baskets allows the player to be more immersed and engaged in the game.
The game rules have been slightly modified compared to the original. The player is given a limited amount of time to collect as many eggs as possible while dropping as few as possible. The chutes through which the eggs roll are arranged in a semicircle in front of the player at different heights. The player must stay alert to spot and catch the eggs in time. Each caught egg earns points, while each missed egg deducts some points. As time progresses, the game becomes more intense, with eggs being laid faster and faster.
This game was created during the Hacker Games hackathon. A parallel idea was also developed – a real egg-catching game. For this, a special construction was built that automatically released a ball through one of four chutes.
