KTU Faculty of Informatics and Japanese Partners Bridging Science, Education, and Innovation

Important | 2026-04-22

On April 20th–21st, 2026, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) hosted the SGroup “Think Tank Academy” Spring Conference. This event became a vital platform for the Faculty of Informatics (FI) to deepen its integration into the global academic ecosystem, with a particular focus on strategic discussions with Japanese partners regarding science, studies, and technological breakthroughs.

A Strategic Pact for Future Technologies

One of the most significant moments of the conference was the official signing ceremony dedicated to cooperation.

This partnership is not merely a formality – it is a direct path for students and researchers at the FI to integrate into cutting-edge technology networks where Japan sets the trends. The signing opens unique opportunities for FI students. This represents more than just academic exchange – it is an opportunity to participate in joint projects that combine theoretical informatics knowledge with top-level Japanese industrial practice. Such cooperation ensures that KTU study programs meet the needs of the global IT market.

Innovation Through Connection

Silvija Grubaitė, the International Relations Coordinator at the FI, participated in the event and shared her perspective on its impact. “The greatest benefit is the live contact with the international community: new acquaintances, potential cooperation ties, and ideas that can certainly be applied in our activities,” noted S. Grubaitė. She emphasized that such events allow the faculty to better understand the global trajectory of higher education and evaluate its own position within that landscape.

Together with the Vice-Dean for Research, Prof. Daina Gudonienė, the faculty representatives actively engaged in “Think Tank” sessions. These discussions focused on the role of technology in studies, digitalization, and the common challenges universities face today.

A central axis of the discussion was the future of IT and the breakthrough of Artificial Intelligence. Prof. Daina Gudonienė highlighted that such international partnerships are essential for ensuring scientific quality and competitiveness. For the Faculty, collaboration with Japanese institutions such as Fukuyama City University and the Shibuya Ikueikai Foundation is not just about academic exchange. It is about creating a sustainable ecosystem where theoretical informatics knowledge meets the high-tech practical expertise of Japan.

Further strengthening these ties, on the 20th of April, KTU Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Kęstutis Baltakys, FI Vice-Dean for Research Prof. Daina Gudonienė and KTU Research Project Manager Assoc. Prof. Lina Užienė attended a separate meeting in Vilnius. The discussions focused on advanced research for identifying and analyzing stress-inducing situations faced by drivers. The meeting also explored innovative ways to manage physiological reactions in such scenarios, combining KTU’s informatics expertise with Japanese technological insights.
