31 Years of Excellence: IVUS 2026 Continues to Shape the Future of Informatics

Important | 2026-05-26

On May 12th, 2026, the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) became a vibrant hub for scientific exchange as it hosted the 31st International Conference on Information Society and University Studies (IVUS 2026). This long-standing annual event continues a tradition that began in 1995 and is organized through a collaborative partnership among Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas University of Technology, and the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius University.

Platform for the Next Generation of Scientists

IVUS 2026 was specifically designed to provide a stage for Master’s and PhD students, as well as young scientists at the start of their professional journeys. The conference focused on fostering new scientific opportunities and encouraging the sharing of original research across a wide array of Information and Software Technologies.

Rather than sticking to a single niche, the conference proceedings spanned a diverse range of modern scientific frontiers. Participants engaged in deep dives into Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Engineering, explored the development of Smart Systems and Environments, and debated the latest trends in Human-Computer Interfaces and eLearning Technologies. Additionally, the sessions touched upon specialized technical disciplines, including Bioinformatics, Robotics, and complex Mathematical Modeling.

To ensure broad accessibility, the organizers implemented a blended format, allowing for both traditional in-person presentations at the KTU EDU_Lab and remote participation for international attendees.

Insights from Faculty Leadership

The significance of hosting the event at KTU was highlighted by Prof. Daina Gudonienė, Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Informatics. Reflecting on the event’s success, she noted:

“We are delighted that this year’s IVUS conference returned to the KTU. The level of interest we have seen from young researchers is truly encouraging. It is vital for our faculty to host such events that not only showcase high-level academic inquiry but also strengthen the ties between our regional partner universities. Seeing the enthusiasm of the participants and the depth of their research into fields like artificial intelligence and smart systems confirms that the future of our information society is in very capable hands.”

Trends and Insights in Modern Computing

The scientific program showcased a broad spectrum of research from various international universities. A significant portion of the discussion centered on the practical application of Machine Learning, with researchers presenting innovative ways to optimize energy consumption and automate content generation for marketing.

Furthermore, there was a strong emphasis on data-driven decision-making within the business sector and the continuous improvement of deep learning methods for real-time object detection. These contributions sparked rigorous discussion among both the local audience and those joining via the teleconferencing system, reflecting the high academic standard of the emerging generation of scientists.
